Has anyone completed their site visit yet? How did you go about finding a school with a D/HH child in it? I feel kinda dumb calling up a random school and being like "HEY!" lol... Advice?
If you tell me in what area you want to do it I can also put you in touch with either teachers or the outreach consultants from KSD who know where schools are and can help you locate a placement.
I did mine at the middle school in my hometown. You can call the board of education where you are looking at and then they could help you from there. That is what I did anyway. =)
I did mine at The Heuser Hearing Institute in Louisville. It is kind of far away but I LOVED it. It is a deaf/oral preschool and I thought it was cool. The classes are about 6 students and the teachers and staff are all very very friendly. I felt very welcomed there and there are teachers there who graduated from EKU so they make you feel even more welcomed. I can give you the email for the woman who sets up the visits if you want it :)
I went to William Wells Brown Elem in Lexington Kentucky. I observed a teacher named Lindsey Kiser she has 3 deaf students and 1 hard of hearing student in her classroom. She is really nice and would not mind to have people come to her classroom. You can find her email from the FCPS website.
Go to KSD. I'm not sure if the school can even tell you if they have a D/HH student if you ask. KSD's # is 859-239-7017

ReplyDeleteGlenn Marshall here in Richmond has a child who is hard of hearing. She's a first grader. That's where I plan on doing mine.

ReplyDeleteDo we have to have something signed to prove that we did a site visit?
