Does anyone follow the ABC family show "Switched at Birth" regularly? I don't watch it regularly, but I was wondering if it's educationally significant at all? From what I've watched on the channel and the previews, I'm not sure if I would want to watch it...I might get addicted! Is it worth catching up on?
I love this show! As far as educational... Maybe a little. There is a lot of ASL and some Deaf culture aspects. I would recommend it, just because I think it's a good show. And yes, it is very addictive!
ReplyDeleteVery Very Very addictive!!! There are some educational aspects maybe...but it just mainly shows what it is like to be deaf in a way...the deaf side of it. ANd it has some funny parts...especially with the signs...It's great! You will love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the show and think it is very addictive. It can be educational in the fact that I think it addresses issues that Deaf people would face. I like watching it because of the sign language it allows me to learn new signs as well as refresh me on signs that I learned in ASL 101, 102, and 201. However it is a drama about kids in high school. So it talks about sex, alcohol, and love. Although I'm not sure if they really use ASL in the TV show. To me it seems like they use a lot of signed Exact English (SEE) but I could be wrong that is just how it seems to me. But I love the show and it is on Netflix. I would say watch it!
ReplyDeleteAlso the first season is on Hulu so you don't have to pay anything :) didn't watch it until we talked about it in class a few weeks ago but I am now addicted! Don't try to pick it up from where they are in the season now because there is a lot you will miss and things won't click. I don't know what level of signing your at but I am in 201 and have learned a few things from this show! It is definitely my new favorite.
ReplyDeleteThis has become one of my new favorite shows to watch. I have my t.v. set to record it every week. I have the ABC website saved on my laptop so that I can watch the previous season as well as re-watch what has played this season. It is somewhat educational i have learned signs that I didn't know had any and I have been signing for 21 years. Start from the beginning of the first season so you are not lost. you can also watch it for free on abc's website and it is the full episodes. here is the link.

enjoy.
I love it! Im not able to watch it Tuesday nights when it comes on, but every Wednesday before I have to go to work I watch the newest episode!! It's pretty cool to see the people sign and know what they are saying/signing :)
ReplyDeleteThis first season is on Netflix too.
ReplyDeleteSwitched at Birth is the best show ever. If you like ASL and some high school drama you will love it!
ReplyDeleteAwesome show, at least if you become addicted it's not something stupid like Jersey shore, sorry if you like it, but that show makes me want to gouge my eyes and ears out. I agree it could have some educational aspect and I think as it goes on we will see more into the Deaf world. I love that the family is learning to sign, but I wanted that last season. lol I would definitely recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this show, I am a religious watcher since the first season came on! It's helped me learn ASL.. I find myself recording it to make sure I know the signs even though it has subtitles. I recommend it to anyone that is learning ASL.
