This does not directly relate to Deaf Education but I volunteer with AFTEC which is an Equine Therapeutic Riding program for children with disabilities. The instructor works with kids of all kinds of backgrounds and disabilities while riding horses. For anyone that is interested in learning more their website is www.aftec.us. This program was great and is a great opportunity for people to work with kids and horses.
That is so cool. I have heard of it before but did not know that Ky had a program like that. I need to let a few people know. They have been interested in creating something like this but with regular farm animals and dogs. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteNo problem. It is a great program and I really enjoy the people and the horses.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really interesting. I have a friend who's an ITP wannabe like me who is doing a paper on therapeutic riding for an ITP class we;re in. Have you worked with any Deaf kids? My friend is looking to tie this in with interpreting, so this post caught my eye. I already sent her the web address and a link to this blog, but if you have any info related to this, if you would just post or comment, then maybe I can get the 2 of you together. Thanks for sharing :).
ReplyDeleteThere is one girl who is 3 and has downs syndrome that signs but I have not meet/worked any deaf kids while volunteering there. It is a really good program though.
