Visual Phonemics
I don't know about anyone else, but I REALLY liked the video. I would love to know more about how it works, how the technique shows children who are Deaf or HH HOW to form the word without them actually being able to experience that sound aurally. It reminded me of Alexander Graham Bell's work on speech and sound.
I liked it too. I think it would be neat to learn more about it and how to actually do it as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually mentoring in a deaf education class right now. I'm working with a young girl with cochlear implants, she is using visual phonemics. I am learning a lot! The teacher I am working with told me about some free clinics I could attend to learn how to use the techniques since deaf ed is my major. If you'd like I could post on here the date and place of the clinics. Just let me know.
ReplyDeleteI had an observation at KSD a few semesters ago and in the past they have tried the visual phonics and the students who were using them excelled at spelling. I'm not really sure why it isn't a better known program.
