My name is Christa Burrows, I am from Nassau, Bahamas. I am a DHH/ELE Ed. I LOVE kids (I want 8 ... crazy I know). I'm kinda torn because I want to teach elementary aged kids but I want to teach high school science.
I have a previous degree, B.S in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Forensic Science from Missouri Valley College. I actually did a year of medical school in Trinidad and Tobago. I haven't entirely given up on that dream but ... yeah. I'm also a certified EMT-B (basic) I plan on becoming a certified paramedic while I'm here at EKU.
Regardless of the area/field I go into I just ultimately want to work with kids (point blank).
My first exposure to a Deaf person was somewhere between 7 and 10 at a vacation bible school day camp thing. That's pretty much it until I came here (just last semester).
What I love about sign language is idk it's kinda like interpretive dance i like the passion that goes into it like the way the message is conveyed with out vocalization or verbal speech. idk.
I'm a person of written word so if I had to tell someone verbally how I felt I just could'nt do it, so signing works I guess.
So yeah
Christa Burrows :)
Wow, Christa! You have lots of options! I doubt you ever get bored in your career. You have so many options of how you can use your knowledge, skills and passion with children/students of various ages. It will be exciting to see how you choose to do that. I hope you NEVER give up on your dreams but find lots and lots of ways to pursue them in a variety of ways!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've actually been to Nassau once several years ago.
Great to have you in the class.
